This Act sets up a scheme for regulating commercial electronic messages. Under the Act, the practice of sending unsolicited commercial electronic messages is prohibited; commercial electronic messages must state the name of the individual or organisation who authorised the sending of the message; there must be an 'unsubscribe' function and software that can harvest electronic addresses must not be used, supplied, or acquired (note: for the purposes of the Act, email addresses and telephone numbers are electronic addresses, however, voice calls are not considered to be electronic messages).
