The purpose of this Act is to regulate the transport of dangerous goods by road and rail in order to promote public safety and protect property and the environment. Legislation, Standards and Codes may be linked to one or more of the University's compliance frameworks either as the driver of the requirements, or as a component of the framework. This Act regulates the transport of flammable, toxic, corrosive and other substances such as petrol, acetylene, liquefied petroleum gas, chlorine, arsenic and acids. These goods, due to their physical, chemical and toxicological properties, pose a significant risk to human life, health, property and the environment, especially while being transported.
