Overview The principal objects of this Act areâ€"
(a) to recognise that the Auditor-General is an independent and accountable statutory officer responsible for providing independent audit and audit-related services, and
(b) to establish the Audit Office of New South Wales to assist the Auditor-General in the exercise of the Auditor-General’s functions.

Description Section 59(3) of the Act states the accountable authority for an auditable entity shall take all reasonable precautions, including such precautions (if any) as are specified in the prescribed requirements, for guarding against damage to, destruction of or falsification of or in, and for discovery of falsification of or in, any book or record or part of a book or record required by this Act or the prescribed requirements to be kept or prepared by the auditable entity.
